Soccer Scholarships

Soccer scholarships for college in the USA and other countries are available to highly skilled men and women playing at the collegiate level.

Getting soccer scholarships to a college around the country is never easy, and neither is making yourself the ideal candidate.  But there are plenty of things that you can do to make yourself a more attractive target, so that you actually become more likely to  be picked up.  Of course, even doing all the right things you will need a fair amount of luck to get discovered.  But by preparing yourself in the right way, you can increase the likelihood that you’ll be recognized for soccer scholarships to the college of your choice.

One of the most important things to realize about getting collegiate soccer scholarships, is that it takes a lot of preparation on your part.  The most important thing is ensuring you’re as developed as possible as a player.  That means playing on your high school’s team, but also, you’ll need to qualify for your region’s Olympic Development Program to really  have a chance.  This way, you can begin to receive national acclaim, and most coaches recruit exclusively through this program, so you can’t get recognized if you aren’t already somewhat available.

Also, it’s important to ensure that you’re the right type of player.  Nobody want’s a diva, so you have to be sure to recognize that you’re willing to play any position.  But it’s also important to make it known that you like to train, and you train as hard as the coach needs you to.  Coaches like players that they can adapt to their system, and you have to appear willing to adapt, and also willing to work hard.  Otherwise you can have problems being chosen, if are trying too hard to be a star.  So just remember to calm down, and realize you aren’t Messi yet.  You’ll get your chance, but it takes some patience.

Of course, the other important part of getting soccer scholarships, is the academic end.  Colleges don’t want students that can’t get their work done, or keep their grades up, and most teams have academic requirements.  For that reason, you’re going to need to ensure that your grades are great beforehand, to have a real shot at getting on a college team.  Coaches are less likely to touch you, if they feel you’ll have a problem keeping up with the workload. So show that you’re perfectly prepared for what’s required from you academically.  That way, you heighten your choices of being considered.

But perhaps the biggest part of getting soccer scholarships, is letting the scouts know you’re out there.  You may consider sending a video into colleges in the area, so that you can get scouts talking, and make them aware that you’re out there.  But also, remember to watch for scams.  The world of soccer scholarships is full of them, and any potential scout or agent that’s looking for money to consider you, is always going to be too good to be true.  So remember to take every opportunity that you’ll have, but be wary of scams, so that you can ensure your scholarship will be legitimate.
